Soma bands emerge as spiritual successors to famous acts in the rock music scene. According to NME, Palaye Royale emerged as a natural successor to My Chemical Romance’s theatrical and conceptual approach to music. Here’s how they managed to do that.

They Created an Universe for the Fans

Palaye Royale built more than just a musical catalog. They’ve created an entire universe for their fans to inhabit. The band developed their own media ecosystem. They publish The Royal Times newspaper and produce The Royal Television YouTube series. Their fanbase, dubbed the Soldiers Of The Royal Council, mirrors the passionate community that once rallied around My Chemical Romance’s music and message. The council name comes from their mother’s initials.

Palaye Royale understands the importance of creating a complete artistic package. “Like My Chemical Romance before them, the Palaye Royale phenomenon can largely be explained by them being a band who have invited their fans, not just to listen to them, but to join their world,” as noted in their NME feature.

Artistic and Conceptual Parallels

The similarities between the two bands extend beyond theatrical presentations. Fan observations claim there are striking parallels in their artistic approaches, especially in album concepts. For instance, the ‘Boom Boom Room’ Side A shares thematic elements with ‘The Black Parade.’ Both feature hospital settings and introspective narratives.

The bands also ventured into graphic novels. Palaye Royale’s ‘The Bastards’ echoes MCR’s ‘The Killjoys’ in narrative ambition.

The musical DNA shared between the bands is seen in punk-rooted sound structures and chord progressions. Remington’s vocal style and his rasp voice draws comparisons to MCR’s vocal approaches. This connection is evident in albums like ‘Bastards,’ and ‘Fever Dream.’

According to Alternative Press, Remington Leith is pretty open about his admiration for My Chemical Romance. He cites their concerts as some of the most impactful performances he’s ever witnessed. “I always knew it would have an emotional impact on me, but I couldn’t control my emotions,” he said about meeting the band in person.

Marvin reports that each band member brings different influences. Remington draws inspiration from My Chemical Romance and contemporary pop. Sebastian’s sound stems from Brit Rock. Emerson incorporates classical elements and is mainly inspired by Chopin’s work.
