KISS icon Gene Simmons recently clashed with fans who want him to retire, addressing their criticisms and questions in a series of posts on X.

The exchange began when a fan questioned why Simmons does not retire to maintain his dignity.

“Retire? And do what?” Simmons responded. Another fan suggested that Simmons could only ask that question because he has never worked a regular office or blue-collar job. Simmons countered by listing his extensive work history prior to his music career.

“Well…I started working at 12 years of age working for a butcher, grinding the fat from the butcher’s block,” Simmons said. “I delivered newspapers. I was the assistant to the director of the Puerto Rican interagency council. I was the assistant of the editor of Vogue magazine. And I was a 6th grade teacher. And what have you done with your life?”

The discussion escalated when another user claimed that Simmons does not manage his own social media account and pays someone else to interact with fans. Simmons quickly dismissed the accusation.

“Sad to say, you’re a small person,” Simmons replied. “For you to make up something like this about me, when you don’t know me, you’ve never met me and you’ve never spoken to me. Kindly mind your own business and go figure out what makes you happy in your life. And good luck to you.”

Simmons continues to remain active on social media, frequently engaging directly with his followers.

The latest exchange comes as Simmons remains firmly in the public eye well after KISS wrapped its touring career, a chapter that continues to shape how fans view his refusal to step away.

Simmons was born Chaim Witz on Aug. 25, 1949, in Haifa, Israel, and later became one of the founding members of KISS. That background underscores why his comments on retirement continue to draw attention, as he has spent most of his life tied to the band’s identity.

KISS played what it described as its final concert on Dec. 2, 2023, closing out the four-year “End of the Road World Tour” at Madison Square Garden. The band’s farewell was presented as the end of its live touring era, though Simmons has continued to pursue other projects.

Simmons said in 2024 that the end of KISS did not mean the end of his career, as he shifted focus to solo shows and other work. That stance fits a long pattern in which Simmons has remained visible through music, business ventures, and public appearances.

Simmons also faced backlash in 2024 over remarks he made while guest-judging “Dancing With the Stars,” when critics called his comments about female performers “creepy.” The episode added to a history of headline-making moments that have kept him in the public eye long after KISS’s farewell run ended.
