In a recent Instagram post, Brian Welch criticized Christians who find it hard to love people they disagree with.
“It’s easy for someone to say they love Jesus, but can they actually love a Judas type?” the Korn guitarist asked in a video. “An enemy/betrayer or even someone with opposing political views and life choices? It seems to me that countless people who label themselves as Christians have the hardest time accomplishing this, or even worse—they have no desire to at all.”
Welch continued, “That, to me, is baffling. One of Christ’s strongest teachings was to love your enemies. I don’t see that much in mainstream Christianity. And I don’t think I’ve seen it at all in politically focused Christianity. Talk about missing the point.”
“So many people are wasting their time fighting to force others to live by their own personal views, thinking they’re fighting for God, but in the end, they’re going to have a heart-shattering realization that they missed the whole point of God: LOVE,” the musician also noted.
Welch turned to religion in the early 2000s to overcome drug and alcohol addiction and left Korn for almost ten years. He returned in 2013 and has since reconsidered his earlier extreme approach to his faith.
“I had to come out of that and find normalcy because there’s nothing worse than a freakin’ irritating religious person just shoving it down your throat — there’s nothing worse than that,” the rocker told in a 2021 appearance on No Fuckin’ Regrets With Robb Flynn. “And you saw it on the documentary [‘Loud Krazy Love,’ which documents Brian’s journey towards sobriety], Jonathan’s [Davis], like, ‘I hate those motherf*ckers.'”
Brian added, “People can’t stand ’em. And for years, we’ve had those Christians outside of Korn concerts, saying Korn’s of the devil, and all this. It’s crazy — it’s a crazy thing. But I’m just glad I got through it. And I’m glad that I am who I am now, and I have a lot of peace and rest for my soul. I feel very leveled and at peace with myself.”
Welch previously confirmed that he is currently working on new music with Korn but there is no release date yet.
