“Sad to hear this news, godspeed Glenn, you got this sir!!” Soto said. “I’m so happy I have an incredible amount of live memories with you both onstage or merely watching you do your THANG!!”

“Father Time is against us now but we know many ways on how to sneak around him, God Bless Papa Hughes!!” he continued.

The announcement was posted on August 4, 2026. It confirmed that all upcoming live shows have been canceled. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee explained that recent medical examinations led his doctors to recommend the procedure. His health is his number one priority at this time.

The decision came after MRIs, CT scans, and an echocardiogram prompted his medical team to advise immediate surgery. This will be another open-heart surgery for Hughes. It suggests this is not his first experience with such a procedure. The 74-year-old vocalist has not disclosed a specific surgery date or further medical details at this stage.

Hughes has been a defining figure in rock music for over five decades. He is known for his powerful voice and stage presence. His work with Deep Purple, Trapeze, and numerous solo projects has cemented his status as one of the genre’s most respected vocalists. The news of his retirement from live performances marks the end of an era for fans who have followed his career through countless tours and recordings.
