Velvet Revolver rhythm guitarist Dave Kushner has shared a historical rejection letter written by Sharon Osbourne, revealing that despite losing the coveted Ozzy Osbourne guitarist spot to Zakk Wylde after Jake E. Lee’s exit, he considers it the best and most respectful rejection of his career.
In a recent Instagram post, Kushner shared the rejection letter with the caption: “Best rejection letter I ever got! Ozzy Osbourne, miss the big guy.”
The letter, written on behalf of Ozzy by Sharon Osbourne, reads: “Dear David, thank you for contacting us and sending your material so that we could consider you for the replacement guitarist in the Ozzy Osbourne band. After lengthy auditions, we now have a new guitarist for the band, but your material was of special interest to us and we would like to keep it on the file for the time being. We wish you all the luck in the world for your future career as a musician and, thank you once again for considering us. Best regards, Sharon Osbourne.”
The respectful tone of the rejection letter stands out as a testament to the professionalism of the Osbourne camp and the quality of Kushner’s audition material. Rather than a generic dismissal, Sharon’s letter acknowledges his talent and leaves the door open for future opportunities.
Kushner, best known as a founding member of Velvet Revolver alongside Scott Weiland, has had a storied career in rock music. The guitarist’s willingness to share this rejection letter demonstrates a healthy perspective on the ups and downs of the music industry.
