Kelly Osbourne recently shared details about her final conversation with her father, Black Sabbath legend Ozzy Osbourne, during his final days before he passed away, in an appearance on the We Need To Talk Podcast. She also explained why performing at the “Back to the Beginning” show was so important to him despite medical warnings.

She discussed how her father prepared her for the future and knew he was going out on his own terms.

“Let me tell you this, my dad knew he was going out,” Kelly Osbourne said. “He knew he went out exactly the way he wanted to. And he was prepping me along the way he was. Everything he told me would happen has happened. Everything he warned me of, every person he told me to stay away from, everything. And I was just like, ‘Wow.’ Like, ‘You really didn’t miss a beat, did you?’”

She then recalled the most meaningful conversation they had just three days before his passing.

“But the most meaningful thing he ever said to me is that he sat me down,” she continued. “And this was about 3 days before he died. He said, ‘I need you to know something… No matter what happens in this life, you can live the rest of your life knowing that there was one man on this planet that truly loved you for every single thing that you are. And that man is me.’ And I started to cry and I said, ‘Please don’t talk like this. Please don’t talk like this.’ Cuz he said, ‘You know, I’m not going to be here forever. And I know you struggle with people and actually believing that you are loved, but I loved you more than anyone.’ And 3 days later, he was gone.”

Osbourne also explained how her mother supported Ozzy’s wish to perform one final show for his fans, despite the severe risks to his health.

“I have to preface this story with my mom allowed him to die the happiest I’d ever seen him,” she added. “All he wanted before he left this planet was one last show, one more time to be able to let his fans know how grateful he was for the life they allowed him to have and how much he loved them. And he got to say goodbye and he got to say thank you. And that’s all he wanted to do. And then he let go. Shortly thereafter. Two weeks after. They told him, ‘If you do this show, you’ll die.’ And he chose to do it anyway. Because it meant more to him than anything.”

She concluded by describing the physical pain her father endured during his final days.

“And he was suffering so much his day-to-day life,” she said. “It was insufferable. Nobody should have to live like that to be in that much pain and be unable to walk and like your mind is all there but your body just doesn’t work.”

This emotional revelation highlights the deep bond between the legendary singer and his family during his final moments.

Kelly’s account of her father’s determination to say goodbye on his own terms fits closely with the public record of his final months, when failing health and a farewell concert he was warned against became the defining story of his last year.

Osbourne died on July 22, 2025 following a yearslong struggle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 76 years old. He had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2019 and had dealt with a series of health problems in the years that followed. He died less than three weeks after the band’s farewell gig.

That farewell took place on July 5, 2025 at Villa Park in Birmingham, his hometown. The “Back to the Beginning” concert reunited the original Black Sabbath lineup in the city for the first time in 20 years. It was a farewell made to measure, with the rock pioneer dying 17 days later.

Osbourne acknowledged his long absence from the stage during the show. At the farewell concert, he reportedly told the crowd, “I don’t know what to say, man, I’ve been laid up for like six years.”

His widow, Sharon Osbourne, later confirmed that the performance went ahead against explicit medical advice. Ozzy ignored repeated warnings from doctors that he was dying and insisted on going ahead with the concert. Sharon said doctors told him he was too sick to perform.

Details of his final months have also been documented since his passing. His death certificate filed in London listed a heart attack as the cause of death, along with coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease. The farewell event raised millions for Acorns Children’s Hospice, and a photo exhibition was later launched in Birmingham to mark the concert’s first anniversary.
