Ministry founder Al Jourgensen shared his thoughts about his former roadies in an interview on The Magnificent Others with Billy Corgan. He discussed the remarkable journey of Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Marilyn Manson from Ministry’s road crew to stardom.

“Trent Reznor started out as a roadie for us. Next thing I know, he’s on the cover of Rolling Stone, and we’re still slogging in the trenches,” Jourgensen said. “His roadie was Marilyn Manson, who then overtook him. So it’s kind of like this tree.”

“Not one minute was I ever bitter about that. I cheered them on,” he continued. “I’m like, ‘This is great.’ No, for not one second did I ever feel bitter or anything about the success of other people. I was actually glad to see them go on their way and carry on what we were trying to do from the beginning of Wax Trax!, which was basically to upend music and the music industry.”

These comments shed light on the interconnected nature of the industrial music scene. The genre’s evolution spans decades, particularly through Wax Trax! Records and its associated artists.

Biographical sources documented Jourgensen’s extensive influence beyond Reznor and Manson. His work included producing Skinny Puppy’s ‘Rabies’ album and touring with frontman Nivek Ogre. These collaborations demonstrated the industrial music community’s close-knit nature.

The industrial scene’s artists often collaborated on various projects. These partnerships helped shape the genre’s distinctive sound and attitude.

Ministry’s official website highlighted Wax Trax! Records’ pivotal role in the 1980s. The label launched Ministry’s career and established Chicago as an industrial music hub.

The label’s boundary-pushing philosophy matched Jourgensen’s vision perfectly. Their support for experimental sound and early Ministry singles proved their commitment to disrupting industry norms.

Louder Sound traced Ministry’s influence through four decades of industrial music. Jourgensen consistently championed innovation and anti-establishment sentiments throughout his career.

This unwavering dedication to musical evolution created opportunities for artists like Reznor and Manson. They developed their unique styles while building upon Ministry and the Wax Trax! movement’s foundation.
