“All of us would have liked to have won, but we all were rooting for Gojira,” she said. “We were standing in line with all of them and they’re so humble and nice. Whenever I do an impression of them I go like this and they’re like, ‘No you’re going to win, f*ck us, we’re not going to win.’ We were just like, ‘Guys, you opened the Olympic ceremony on a castle with blood raining down. You’re winning this Grammy.'”

LaPlante recalled the moment Gojira won, mentioning how they sat far in the back with their families and nearly missed their acceptance speech. “I think that they are so humble like they sat so far in the back. We were like, ‘Go down there,’ and they were like, ‘No we want to sit with our family.’ I was like, ‘All right, well, you’re going to maybe miss your speech.’ Sure enough, they won and they had to sprint down. They almost missed it they took the Grammy away. and they were like, ‘No, no.'”

She also praised Gojira’s speech. “I thought it was really cool because they used that time to be like, ‘You need to support smaller bands and support your local bands. You need to do that or bands like us aren’t going to be up here.’ So I thought that was really cool.”

Although Spiritbox lost, LaPlante celebrated Gojira’s victory, sharing a smiling photo with bandmate Mike Stringer on social media, captioned, “We lost to Gojira.”

She also shared her excitement in a follow up post, “30 years as a band, no member changes, opened the Olympic ceremony in their home country….no one deserves it more!”

Gojira won for their performance of ‘Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça Ira!)’ they played at the Olympic Games opening ceremony. They beat Judas Priest, Metallica, Knocked Loose ft. Poppy, and Spiritbox.

This was Gojira’s first Grammy win after four nominations, having previously lost in 2017 and 2021 to Cage The Elephant, Megadeth, and Dream Theater.
