Former Skid Row frontman Erik Grönwall opened up about the lyrical inspiration for his new solo track ‘Who’s The Winner.’ The song explores the bittersweet reality that while his departure from the band was the right decision for him personally, it ultimately felt like a heartbreaking, no-win scenario where a truly great musical connection had to come to an unfortunate end.

Grönwall reflected on the deeper meaning behind the track, explaining that the song addresses situations where no one truly emerges victorious. He described how the concept applies to any relationship marked by conflict, where ego takes control and leaves both parties walking away with nothing but their pride and regret.

“Sometimes no one is the winner,” Grönwall stated. “That’s basically what I’m saying with that song. Sometimes nobody wins. It could be in any relationship where you have an argument with someone and your ego takes control of you. You walk out of that argument or relationship and think, ‘No one won. No one won.’ And you sit there alone with your pride. Was it worth it? That’s what I’m asking.”

The Swedish vocalist drew a direct parallel between the song’s message and his own experience leaving Skid Row. He acknowledged the difficulty of the decision while recognizing its necessity for his personal well-being.

“For me, it’s personally about my departure from Skid Row,” Grönwall explained. “I just felt like I had to do what I did. I had to make that decision. One part of me knows it was the right decision, but another part of me is like, ‘Wow, we had a really great thing,’ and it’s a shame it had to come to an end. That’s my way of processing that.”

The track marks Grönwall’s artistic response to a chapter that defined much of his recent career. ‘Who’s The Winner’ serves as both a personal reflection and a universal commentary on the cost of difficult choices, even when those choices prove necessary.
