Twisted Sister guitarist Jay Jay French has addressed the possibility of recording new studio material with Sebastian Bach, the former Skid Row frontman who recently joined the band as their new vocalist for the upcoming reunion tour. French explained the significant obstacle standing in the way of such a project when asked about plans to record new Twisted Sister music with Bach on vocals.

“We don’t own the rights to that any longer. We sold the rights to that,” French stated. “So I don’t know if we could or not. And we haven’t even thought about it.”

The guitarist’s comments highlight a critical barrier to future studio recordings. The band’s ownership of their catalog has been transferred to other parties. This development comes at a pivotal moment for Twisted Sister as the legendary 1980s glam metal band navigates a major transition in its lineup and touring plans.

The reunion tour represents a significant shift for the band following the departure of original frontman Dee Snider. Snider stepped away from live performances due to serious health concerns, citing degenerative arthritis and heart-related strain as the primary reasons he could no longer deliver the high-energy performances the band’s legacy demands. Rather than compromise the quality of their shows, Snider made the difficult decision to retire from touring. This allows the band to continue celebrating their milestone anniversary with a fresh vocal presence.

Sebastian Bach’s recruitment to front the band for select fall 2026 dates marks an exciting chapter for Twisted Sister’s 50th anniversary celebration. The former Skid Row vocalist brings his own legendary credentials to the role. His involvement does not interfere with his solo touring schedule, allowing both his career and Twisted Sister’s reunion efforts to proceed simultaneously. The band’s decision to move forward with Bach demonstrates their commitment to honoring their legacy while adapting to the realities of their members’ current circumstances.

The loss of publishing and recording rights to their catalog represents a broader challenge facing legacy acts in the modern music industry. Many bands from the 1980s and earlier eras sold their rights during periods when such assets were undervalued. This decision now limits their creative control and ability to generate new material under their own brand. For Twisted Sister, any future studio recordings would require navigating complex licensing agreements and negotiations with the current rights holders. This makes the prospect of new music considerably more complicated than simply gathering the band in a studio.

Despite these obstacles, the band’s focus remains on delivering memorable live performances during their fall tour dates. The tour has expanded to include nine shows across various locations including Alaska, Oregon, Oklahoma, Washington, Gary, Indiana, Charles Town, West Virginia, and St. Petersburg, Florida. The tour serves as a celebration of the band’s enduring impact on heavy metal and glam rock, even if new studio recordings remain uncertain for the foreseeable future.
