Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine recently discussed his surprising post-retirement career plans. The heavy metal icon revealed that he wants to mentor other musicians and is seriously considering a move into acting, even stating he would be willing to cut his iconic hair for a guaranteed, major role.

During a recent interview with Classic Rock magazine, Mustaine explained his interest in the film and television industry. He stated that he “would not mind studying acting,” noting that he is already very accustomed to being in front of the camera. “I have already done a ton of stuff on TV, hosting game shows, appearances in small sitcoms and movies,” he explained, adding that pursuing this path “might be fun to do.” Mustaine also made a surprising confession about his famous appearance, revealing, “If they asked me to cut my hair, I would be willing to do it!” However, he clarified that this major commitment would require a “guaranteed part” and a “big part.”

Aside from acting, the vocalist also expressed a strong desire to teach and guide others in the music industry. He shared that he really wants to “share my gift with younger musicians,” though he noted that age is not a strict requirement. Whether it is a younger artist or someone a bit older who wants to learn “what it is that makes Dave tick,” Mustaine said he just wants to be able to share his knowledge. He humbly reflected on his talents, stating that he has “been gifted from God” and “would not be this good” on his own.

The frontman’s comments about his future arrive as he prepares for the end of Megadeth’s long-running career. Mustaine officially announced in August 2025 that the band would embark on a global farewell tour in 2026 before fully retiring, a decision heavily influenced by the physical toll of hand issues like Dupuytren’s contracture. If he does officially transition to Hollywood after the farewell run, he already has some experience to rely on; Mustaine previously acted in late-1990s and early-2000s television shows such as The Drew Carey Show and Black Scorpion, and even voiced a character in the 2017 horror film ‘Halloween Pussy Trap Kill! Kill!.’
