Sharon Osbourne has responded forcefully to critics who have dismissed the recently announced Ozzy Osbourne digital AI avatar as a money-grabbing venture. She rejected the notion that the family is exploiting the late rock legend’s legacy for financial gain. “I’ve seen such shit online about it being a ‘money grab.’ Why would I need to do that? It’s not as if I’m using Ozzy to sell f*cking weedkiller or beer. Ozzy loved the idea. We’ve been talking about it for 10 years,” Sharon explained.
She emphasized the artistic merit of preserving Ozzy’s extensive body of work through modern technology. “Ozzy has this great body of work that took a lifetime to do – why shouldn’t he still be seen? Why should we have to watch the same videos over and over again, when there’s technology available that means we don’t have to? If you don’t like it, don’t go see it. I’m not at people’s houses with a fucking gun, going, ‘Give me your money!'” Sharon stated, making clear that engagement with the avatar would be entirely voluntary.
The announcement of the Ozzy Osbourne digital avatar project has sparked considerable debate within the fan community and the broader entertainment industry. The initiative represents a significant technological undertaking designed to preserve the legacy of the Black Sabbath frontman, who passed away on July 22, 2025. Nearly a year after Ozzy’s death, the family’s decision to move forward with the project marks a new chapter in how his artistic contributions will be experienced by future generations.
The avatar was unveiled at the Licensing Expo 2026 in Las Vegas in May. Sharon and Jack Osbourne introduced the collaborative project developed in partnership with technology companies Hyperreal and Proto Hologram. The companies have employed cutting-edge “digital DNA” technology to create a lifelike representation based on authenticated and approved source material. This material encompasses Ozzy’s voice, image, movement, and personality. The approach ensures that the avatar operates with the family’s direct oversight and maintains accuracy to Ozzy’s authentic character and mannerisms.
Jack Osbourne has emphasized that the system operates as a “closed AI” that is not connected to the internet. It relies instead on a carefully curated database of material that was accurately said or written about his father. This design choice reflects the family’s commitment to maintaining control over how Ozzy’s digital representation interacts with the public. The avatar will be capable of engaging in real-time conversations with fans. It will move and speak in ways that mimic Ozzy’s distinctive behavior and personality traits.
The life-sized interactive Proto Luma touchscreen units featuring the avatar are expected to begin appearing in the United States and United Kingdom beginning in late summer 2026. Sharon has indicated that the digital Ozzy could eventually be utilized in concerts, movies, and advertisements. The family plans to expand the project globally. The family’s vision extends beyond static displays, suggesting that the avatar technology could become a dynamic part of Ozzy’s ongoing cultural presence and artistic legacy for years to come.
