Soundgarden recently announced their return to the stage next month for a special show featuring Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless and Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, sharing the news on Instagram.
The announcement detailed their upcoming performance providing halftime entertainment during the Seattle Seahawks’ season opener.
“Soundgarden, featuring Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless, and Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, will be performing at halftime of the NFL’s season opener in Seattle on Wednesday, September 9th,” the band said. “The game is a Super Bowl LX rematch between the champion Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots. GO HAWKS!!”
This performance will mark a special return for the band at Lumen Field. The reunion holds particular significance for fans of the pioneering Seattle grunge band, whose last full performance with frontman Chris Cornell took place in 2017.
Soundgarden reunited for the first time since Cornell’s death at the 2019 ‘I Am the Highway’ tribute show. Surviving members Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd, and Matt Cameron have only rarely appeared live together in the years since.
Momsen and McCready previously joined the band for a 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame performance, making them familiar collaborators for this return. Momsen handled lead vocals on tracks like “Rusty Cage” during that appearance.
Mike McCready’s ties to Soundgarden run deep through Seattle’s grunge era, as Pearl Jam and Soundgarden both emerged as defining acts of the city’s influential music scene in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Soundgarden itself formed in 1984 and helped shape the sound that put Seattle on the global map.
The NFL matchup is a Super Bowl LX rematch, with the champion Seattle Seahawks hosting the New England Patriots in the season opener on Wednesday, September 9 at Lumen Field. It marks one of the league’s marquee Week 1 showcase games.
The halftime performance will bring one of Seattle’s most influential bands back to a hometown stadium stage, adding a powerful local soundtrack to the title defense kickoff.
