KISS guitarist Tommy Thayer recently teased special release plans for a new KISS song written by Paul Stanley, addressing rumors about the band working on new material in an interview with Guitar World.

Thayer confirmed that the band has recorded new material and discussed the philosophy behind releasing new music after their farewell tour.

“We did record a great new song that Paul wrote,” Thayer said. “That’s probably about as much as I can tell you right now.”

He went on to explain that any new release from the band must feel like a significant event rather than just another standard record.

“But KISS has always believed in making things an event,” Thayer continued. “So whatever new music comes, it has to feel special and have a reason for existing. You don’t make another KISS record just because you’re supposed to make another KISS record.”

He also emphasized that the end of their touring career does not mean the band has become inactive.

“KISS may have stopped touring, but that doesn’t mean things have stopped happening,” Thayer added. “There’s still a lot going on and a lot of new things developing.”

These comments suggest that while KISS has retired from the road, fans can still look forward to unique projects and potential new releases in the future. The band’s recent farewell provides important context for Thayer’s comments about making any new music feel meaningful.

KISS began its End of the Road World Tour in Vancouver on January 31, 2019, and concluded the run with a final concert at New York’s Madison Square Garden on December 2, 2023.

The farewell tour was promoted as the band’s final concert trek and lasted roughly four years. Its extended schedule reinforced the idea that KISS was closing the touring chapter of its career rather than simply taking a short break.

The final New York shows also carried historical significance for the group. The band’s last scheduled performance was intended to take place more than 50 years after KISS played its first show.

Thayer’s own history with KISS also stretches back further than his official role in the band. He had already been involved with KISS for six years before making his first official appearance as the group’s guitarist. That long association helps explain his perspective on the band’s legacy and its approach to future projects.

For now, KISS has not announced when or how the new Paul Stanley composition will be released. Thayer’s comments indicate that the band is considering a format or occasion that matches the song’s significance rather than rushing it out as a conventional new record.
