Review Overview

It’s been ten years since Anthrax put out a studio album, so Cursum Perficio lands with a lot riding on it. The title is Latin for “I finish my journey,” which is a loaded phrase for a band that’s been going for nearly five decades. I hear the record as a summation of the band’s long Belladonna era rather than a simple comeback.

That long wait shapes how the material gets measured. Nobody here treats age and legacy as a weakness; they’re the backdrop against which these songs have to prove they still hit with real force.

Cursum Perficio mixes the band’s classic traits with a more modern finish. Across eleven tracks there’s finessed brutality, sharp melody, and a few experimental flourishes, with Anthrax folding contemporary influences into a style it already owns. The production is clean and confident, and it gives the album a settled feel even where the songwriting is less even.

The band sounds like it knows exactly who it is, rather than searching for a direction. That confidence carries the record; the performances and the production hold up better than some of the songs themselves.

My overall read is mixed but respectful. The album has plenty of classic Anthrax moments without ever quite becoming a defining statement, and it’s a solid if imperfect record rather than the knockout some listeners wanted. Even so, it’s reassuring and exciting at the same time, proof that there’s still real energy in the tank. Call it credible and effective, but not essential.

Fan reaction splits the same way, between satisfaction and caution. Much of the goodwill comes from the fact that this sounds like Anthrax without pretending to reinvent the band, and a lot of the talk turns on whether the strongest tracks justify the ten-year wait. The same themes keep surfacing: dependable performances, a recognizable sound, and some argument over whether the songwriting matches the band’s pedigree. That makes it a consensus-building record more than a divisive one.

For listeners who move between thrash and metalcore, Cursum Perficio shows how a veteran band can still frame speed, precision, and aggression inside a contemporary mix. The blend of classic attack and updated texture gives it weight beyond nostalgia. What matters most here isn’t reinvention but proof that the band can still deliver at this level.

As late-career metal albums go, this one is disciplined, familiar, and substantial. It’s a reminder that Anthrax still belongs in the genre’s core vocabulary.

Summary
This is a strong late-career album from Anthrax, with clean production and a sound that still feels like the band. The songs are uneven in places, so it is solid but not their best work. Fans of the band will find a lot to like, even if it does not break new ground.
