In a recent tweet, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea shared who thinks is the best female rock singer.
“Chrissie Hynde is the greatest female rock singer of all time,” the bassist wrote in his post. In the comments, some agreed with Flea while others suggested other names for their choices.
One user said, “I can agree she is one of the best of the best.” “Saw them in Gainesville Fl back in the day,” another commenter added. “They were absolutely clean in concert. Almost like hearing the album, but for the ad-lib on stage ext…. As a musician, I was impressed!!”
One other person had someone else in their mind as they wrote, “Sorry, Flea…… but it’s actually Joan Jett.” “She’s bada** and legit for sure but why is it really Ann Wilson,” another one said.
Chrissie Hynde is the founder and lead singer of the Pretenders. She’s still performing with the band and singing hits like ‘Brass in Pocket’ and ‘Don’t Get Me Wrong.’
This happened after Flea talked about Paul McCartney on a recent podcast with Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson. The rocker named Paul as the best bassist, saying, “I think Paul’s the greatest rock bass player. There are so many guys that are great in different ways, but Paul’s bass playing is so lyrical and melodic, and it’s just so beautiful. One of the things I’ve heard is that he puts the bass on after.”
Flea continued, “A band like mine, a lot of songs start with basslines… or the music comes first. Whereas I think Paul and John and George, they wrote songs and [then] Paul would do the bass… So then he’s doing, like a counter melody, so the bass is like a melody as opposed to just rhythm, and that’s amazing.”
Hynde is currently touring the US with the Pretenders. After the US leg ends with a show in Seattle on August 18, they will head towards Europe in September.
