Ritchie Blackmore issued his first message after joining Deep Purple on stage for a one-night reunion at the band’s August 12 show. This marked his first performance with the group in 33 years.
Blackmore said: “Good night had by all, I hope. I know I had a great time. Thanks a lot lads. Carry on and have a good tour.”
The historic reunion followed a rare appearance that brought Blackmore back to the same band he last played with in 1993. Blackmore revealed the surprise during an Instagram Live with his wife, Candice Night, on August 11.
The reunion took place at the Northwell at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York. Deep Purple headlined the concert on August 12.
Blackmore suggested the appearance directly to Ian Gillan. He asked the singer what they would think if he went on stage just for an encore of one song.
The performance featured Blackmore alongside current Deep Purple guitarist Simon McBride. This collaboration underscored the link between the band’s classic era and its present lineup.
The appearance was a one-song encore. Blackmore noted that the group would not play “Highway Star” because the band was opening with that song.
The moment came as Deep Purple continued touring with its current lineup. This kept the reunion framed as a special guest appearance rather than a full-time return.
