Ted Nugent has released a new response to long-circulating accusations from Courtney Love, addressing the topic in a YouTube video. In his remarks, the veteran rocker rejected the various claims linked to him over the years and pushed back against rumors about his personal history.
He insisted that he has never had any connection to Love whatsoever. “They claimed that I had this thing with Courtney Love. Never met Courtney Love. Don’t want to meet Courtney Love. You can tell I’ve never met Courtney Love. I never needed a rabies shot and I have both of my arms,” Nugent said.
The 77-year-old also took aim at a number of other allegations that have followed him throughout his public life, including accusations involving draft evasion and adopting a child. He dismissed these claims as falsehoods spread by people he described as “dirt bags and idiots.”
“[They say], ‘Well, he adopted a 9-year-old to have sex with her.’ What was her name? These people, they lie and lie. [They say], ‘He dodged the draft.’ Didn’t dodge the draft. Never adopted anybody,” Nugent stated.
His latest comments come against the backdrop of decades of scrutiny over his past relationships with underage girls. Courtney Love has publicly accused him of forcing her to engage in sexual acts when she was a minor, according to Far Out Magazine. She originally stated she was 12 and a half and later said she was 14 at the time. Nugent has repeatedly denied her accusations.
One of the most discussed incidents in Nugent’s history involves his relationship with Pele Massa, whom he began dating in 1978 when she was 17 and he was around 29. Reports have stated that her parents approved and that Nugent became her legal guardian—an arrangement some sources, including Wikipedia, claim may have been used to navigate statutory rape laws.
While Nugent disputes aspects of that account, he has acknowledged their relationship. His reputation on this subject was further fueled by the release of his 1981 track “Jailbait,” which Uber Rock notes includes references to attraction toward a 13-year-old girl.
Though these allegations have generated extensive debate over the years, Nugent has never been convicted of any sex-related offenses. He has consistently rejected the accusations made against him, leaving the topic a point of continued controversy in public discussions of his past.
In closing his latest remarks, Nugent framed the criticism as a reaction to his influence, asserting that his spirit “irritates the demons” of those who speak out against him.
