In a recent interview with The Metal Voice, Malmsteen expressed unprecedented satisfaction with the finished product, stating that the album represents a culmination of his artistic vision without compromise.
“The latest one, always the latest one. No, not always. Not always but for sure this time. There’s nothing on this record that I would change. There’s nothing on this record that I think I could do better,” Malmsteen declared. He explained how modern recording technology has fundamentally changed his approach to songwriting and production. In the past, he faced limitations with analog recording equipment that prevented him from making changes after initial recording sessions. “Because back in those days, you had a [inaudible] recorder. You couldn’t just cut the tape because then it would lock up to the other machine and stuff.”
Malmsteen emphasized his meticulous approach to composition. He takes time away from the studio to let songs evolve naturally before finalizing them. “I always take the songs, I write them and then I go around in my cars and I listen to them, if I can over the engine sound. And they always evolve then. ‘This — I am going to change this. I am going to do this.’ If I do it all in the studio, it becomes too macro you know.” He maintains complete creative control over the project, serving as producer, songwriter, and artist. He plays everything on the album except drums.
