“After Neil passed, it didn’t take more than a few minutes before we started getting e-mails from all kinds of drummers who wanted to audition for the band thinking we were just gonna replace somebody that we played with for 40 years and who wrote all the lyrics for our music,” Lifeson revealed. “I don’t know what some of these people were thinking.”

“We had the conversation because we can’t avoid it,” he continued. “But, honestly Geddy is my best friend and I must talk to him every day. It’s not just Rush Rush Rush. I have a deep loving relationship with this man. It’s not all about creating something that we did from the past.”

“You never know what life brings you,” Lifeson added. “Right now, I’m super happy doing what I’m doing. I’m engaged with a lot of musical stuff. I love being a musician. I love playing guitar. I love playing guitar so much it’s not just a vehicle for making a living. It’s me. It’s at the core of my essence. So, it doesn’t have to be about Rush or Envy of None.”

The guitarist’s candid response illuminates the band’s perspective on their future after Neil Peart’s passing. It also reveals details about Rush’s surviving members’ current state.

Ongoing Musical Connection

Insights from Louder Sound reveal that Lifeson and Geddy Lee maintain their musical connection through regular jam sessions. These weekly meetings showcase their enduring friendship beyond Rush’s professional realm.

Their personal relationship remains strong. They have chosen not to pursue Rush-related projects without their longtime drummer.

Stance On Rush’s Legacy

Blabbermouth notes Lifeson’s firm stance against continuing Rush with a replacement drummer. He believes such a move would diminish the band’s legacy and appear as a ‘money ploy’ rather than authentic musical progression.

This viewpoint reflects the deep respect both Lifeson and Lee hold for their four-decade collaboration with Peart. They recognize his role not just as their drummer but as the band’s primary lyricist.

New Creative Directions

Lifeson maintains his position on Rush’s future while finding creative fulfillment through Envy Of None. This new musical project allows him to explore different musical territories while pursuing his passion for guitar playing.

The project marks a fresh chapter in Lifeson’s musical journey. He continues to move forward artistically while honoring Rush’s legacy through his ongoing friendship with Lee.
