Ginger Wildheart has opened up about The Wildhearts’ ill-fated tour with AC/DC during their Ballbreaker era in a candid interview with Classic Rock. The European leg of the tour began with promise. The situation changed dramatically when the band reached the United States.

“The Wildhearts were on tour with AC/DC in Europe on their Ballbreaker tour, then we went to the US and it turned from majesty to comedy to tragedy all in one month,” Wildheart revealed. “We got there and took full advantage of the welcome that America affords a young band, which is as much drugs and alcohol as we could get our hands on, and then, inevitably, we started fighting with each other.”

“It’s possibly the worst thing that ever happened to me; I was partly responsible for blowing a tour of America with AC/DC,” he continued. “And our crew and our manager were all as f*cked up as we were and they all agreed; there wasn’t one person who said, ‘You can’t go home.'”

“As a collective troupe, the Wildhearts were all idiots,” Wildheart admitted. “I love AC/DC. They turn up, do their job and go; you tour for years and years and you don’t do that by hanging out and partying all the time. I mean, look at us: we managed five dates. Yes, why did AC/DC make it and the Wildhearts didn’t? It’s not all sonic.”

Wildheart’s confession illuminates a crucial moment in the band’s history. The incident highlights the stark contrast between professional dedication and self-destructive behavior in the music industry.

The Ballbreaker Tour Production

Documentation from AC/DC Tour History revealed the Ballbreaker Tour’s impressive scale. The production featured a massive wrecking ball and pyrotechnic displays, showcasing AC/DC’s dedication to spectacular live performances.

The tour’s elaborate setup demonstrated AC/DC’s professional approach. This made The Wildhearts’ early departure even more notable by comparison.

Career Impact

Indie Pulse Music noted the divergent paths of both bands. AC/DC maintained their reputation for reliability and professionalism. The Wildhearts, however, faced significant career setbacks after leaving the tour.

The incident became a defining moment for Ginger Wildheart. He later transformed this experience into valuable lessons about professional conduct and band management.

Legacy And Lessons

MusicBrainz records show the Ballbreaker Tour’s lasting impact. The tour stands as one of AC/DC’s most memorable performances.

The contrasting approaches of both bands tell a compelling story. AC/DC’s disciplined methodology versus The Wildhearts’ brief appearance serves as a warning about maintaining professionalism in the music industry, regardless of success’s temptations.
