27 is a cursed age for musicians. Amy Winehouse, Kurt Kobain, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison all died at the age of 27, and they named the 27 Club. All of them have tragic stories, but The Doors’ Morrison’s death was linked to a tragic love relationship with Pamela Courson.

Morrison And His Relationships

Morrison had many romantic, sexual, and longtime relationships. His friends say he had two opposite personalities like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. So, he also portrayed various personas in his relationships. His first known relationship was with Mary Werbelow as his teenage lover. Werbelow claims The Doors’ first three albums were dedicated to her.

Pamela Courson And Jim Morrison

Then he had a long, intense, and open relationship with Pamela Courson. The two met in college and stayed together until Morrison’s death. Morrison had relationships with fans, Pamela Des Barres, Nico, Jefferson Airplane’s Grace Slick, and Janis Joplin while they were together, but this didn’t make Courson leave him.

Courson was with Morrison when he was found dead in their apartment’s bathtub at 27. His official cause of death was heart failure, and there was no autopsy. Some witnesses claim the real reason was a heroin overdose. Courson became Morrison’s heir and inherited his fortune under his will. They weren’t formally married, so there were many lawsuits against her.

The Story Ended In a Tragic Way For Pamela Courson

Morrison and Courson’s relationship was called common-law marriage. This means they decided to be called married without the state’s permission. Three years after Morrison’s death, Courson also died of a heroin overdose at 27. California state didn’t recognize their marriage,  but Courson’s plaque was written as Pamela Susan Morrison in the mausoleum at Fairhaven Memorial Park. So, the couple shared the same tragic end at the same age.
