Have you ever wondered what lies beyond the prison bars of Litchfield Penitentiary for Jessica Pimentel, the actress known for her role as Maria Ruiz in ‘Orange Is The New Black’?

Beyond the small screen, Jessica Pimentel has an alter ego– a member of a death metal band. Here, we will take a closer look at this musical venture and discover the world of Pimentel’s heavy metal passion.

The Beginning of Alekhine’s Gun

Alekhine’s Gun, formed in 2009, is a death metal band hailing from New York City, with a famous chess tactic inspiring the band’s name. Other than the Orange Is The New Black star’s appearance in the band, the rest of the members include Jeff Martinez on guitar, Dan Martinez on drums, and Frank Saponara on bass.

Formed by Pimentel herself, the band’s inspiration for the name comes from the star’s passion for chess. The actress said that she learned her screaming, also called the Cookie Monster singing, during some rehearsals and that it was a natural progression.

Notable Songs

The band’s music can be described as a fusion of progressive metal and death metal. Their sound is characterized by intricate guitar riffs, pounding drums, and Jessica Pimentel’s dynamic vocals. Alekhine’s Gun has a unique ability to blend heavy and melodic elements, creating a captivating musical experience.

In their songs, Alekhine’s Gun often touch on deep and thought-provoking themes, including personal struggles, historical events, and the human condition. Some of the notable songs could include ’49 Days,’ ‘Endgame,’ ‘Atlas,’ and ’21.’

The band’s latest release is an EP, ‘Year of the Lazarus.’ Since its release in 2020, the band has not been active for now, both in social media and in terms of music.
