Korn’s Brian ‘Head’ Welch recently shared an emotional update on his 20-year journey with Christianity, reflecting on how his life has changed since his transformative spiritual experience on January 9, 2005.

In a new Instagram post, Welch wrote, “It disturbs me to think where [I] might be today, if on January 9th 2005, I didn’t come crashing into a life changing encounter with light>love>forgiveness>goodness>mercy. On that day, (20 YEARS AGO TODAY!), a couple of powerful things were set in motion: 1. hatred of self started to dissipate. 2. love and forgiveness for God, self and others was birthed.”

He continued by sharing how the promises he found in the Bible, as well as those revealed to his heart spiritually, have proven true. “Every single promise that I searched for and found in Scripture, along with other promises revealed spiritually to my heart over the years have manifested as true and have fully convinced me. But many of those promises I was being taught at a time when I was losing it all, watching everything come crashing down in my life. I had every reason to call B. S. because I was seeing the opposite take place in my circumstances. But I chose to hang on and keep believing those promises.”

Welch also shared the lesson he learned from these challenges: “The biggest lesson I learned by not giving up while going through those challenges: a house (our life) is never allowed to be demolished unless the purpose and intent of the demolition is to completely rebuild; the foundation will be much stronger, and the house (life) way more beautiful. I know mine is. Never lose heart when you’re being tested. The test will prove you are faithful and the rewards will start to fall in your lap.”

Turning to Christianity in the early 2000s helped Welch overcome addiction, and it caused him to step away from Korn for nearly a decade. After being baptized in 2005, he returned to the band in 2013. Reflecting on his intense faith during that time, Welch admitted that it became obsessive, much like his past addiction to drugs. He talked about the importance of finding balance in his beliefs during his appearance on the No F**kin’ Regrets With Robb Flynn podcast.

He shared, “The crazy thing is I had an experience with something from another dimension. And it wasn’t the religion — going to church and being a good boy — it was, like, I felt something come into my house, and I can’t explain it to this day. But I believe that it was Christ doing something in me. So that was real — that was very real. But yes, I think I went too far with it.”

“And I got obsessed with it, just like I was obsessed with the drugs. I believe I did, for sure. And I had to come out of that and find normalcy, because there’s nothing worse than a freakin’ irritating religious person just shoving it down your throat — there’s nothing worse than that,” he added.

Welch chose to be baptized in the Jordan River after feeling a divine message, and a picture from the ceremony recently went viral due to comparisons between him and Jesus.

In other news, Korn is set to play at several festivals in 2025, including Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival, Welcome to Rockville, Sweden Rock Festival, and Rock am Ring.
