Brian May married Christine Mullen in 1974, and the pair had three children. They separated in 1988, and May started having severe depression after Freddie Mercury’s passing. In 2018, Mullen wanted the parts about her relationship with May removed from the biopic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’ She later explained she was uncomfortable with the way she was portrayed.
Mullen and May got divorced in 1988, but the guitarist had another person in his life in 1986. This was also the person who inspired him to write ‘I Want It All.’
May’s Love Triangle With Mullen And Anita Dobson
Brian May met actress Anita Dobson in 1986. He was still married to Christine Mullen at that time. The pair were at a movie premiere in Beverly Hills, and May fell in love with the actress. He then invited Anita to one of Queen’s concerts, and their relationship continued to grow. May then wrote Queen’s ‘I Want It All’ to reflect his feelings about Mullen and Dobson.
May and Anita have been together since 1986. This was two years before May and Mullen signed the divorce papers. The pair officially got married in 2000 and are still together.
During their appearance on Loose Women in 2015, the couple talked about the ups and downs in their marriage. May confirmed he was still married to Mullen when he met Anita. Anita also revealed that she started the relationship with Brian knowing he was a married man. She called herself the ‘scarlet woman’ but was not proud of being one.
Anita says their marriage relies on their determination to be together. Many didn’t believe their relationship would last (including Freddie Mercury), but the couple has been together for 38 years.
