Shaddix explained that back in 2019, he was reaching out to different artists to reimagine some of their music. “I’d hit Ronnie up and I was like, ‘Dude I just feel like if you did a reimagination of ‘Last Resort,’ it would smash,'” the singer revealed. “I had no idea what he was going to do, I just put it in his ear. I didn’t even expect it to happen. I didn’t have the expectation, I was like throw it out there, and let’s see what comes back and if he’s down. He hits me up a few months later and he’s like, ‘Dude, I’m working on something right now that’s super special,’ and I’m just like, ‘All right.’ I’m getting goosebumps because this kid, he’s talented. He’s got such a drive and a passion towards music and he’s got a very wide range of vocals as well.”

Shaddix also shared what it was like hearing the track for the first time. “It’s amazing what he did to the song and I think it almost cut deeper to the emotion of the lyric than our version of it. I think that was what makes it so special. I remember when I heard it we had just kicked off the Rockzilla tour, first couple dates, and he’s like, ‘I’m super nervous man. I want to play this for you. I got goosebumps,’ and I’m like, ‘All right let’s hear it.’ So he rolls in the dressing room and he plays it and he’s just tripping. If you go back on some of our stories on Instagram or whatever there’s a a whole thing about what I’m talking about and I gotta tell you man, I was so moved. I just had goosebumps. I was tripping. I was just like, ‘Wow.'”

Shaddix reacted to the cover on social media when it was released, saying, “WOW I AM BLOWN AWAY!!!! This one cuts deep, right to the true emotion and depth of the lyrics. What an amazing cover. I’m tripping.”

Falling in Reverse played the audio of the song during their show in Richmond, Virginia, on June 27 last year, between their tracks ‘Just Like You’ and ‘Watch the World Burn.’ According to Setlist.fm, they had previously performed ‘Last Resort’ in 2018 at Download Festival in Melbourne, Australia, but it was not the reworked version.
