Metallica Performs Rare Songs and Covers at Los Angeles Benefit Concert

Metallica held their fourth Helping Hands Concert and Auction on Friday night in Los Angeles.

The event took place at the YouTube Theater, with all proceeds benefiting the band’s All Within My Hands Foundation. Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the night attracted several famous faces, including Aquaman actor Jason Momoa and Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello, both of whom walked the black carpet.

The concert began with SistaStrings, a classically trained violin and cello duo, followed by an all-star quartet featuring Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani, and Kenny Aronoff.

Metallica’s acoustic set opened with ‘Low Man’s Lyric,’ a song they hadn’t performed since 1998. They later played ‘The Unforgiven II’ for the first time since 2015. The setlist also included Bachman–Turner Overdrive’s ‘Away From Home,’ Diamond Head’s ‘Helpless,’ and Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament joined them for ‘Hit The Lights.’

Other songs in the set included ‘If Darkness Had a Son,’ ‘Nothing Else Matters,’ ‘Orion,’ ‘The Shortest Straw,’ ‘Until It Sleeps,’ ‘Screaming Suicide,’ ‘Fuel,’ and ‘Master Of Puppets.’

The All Within My Hands Foundation, founded in 2017, aims to build sustainable communities by supporting workforce education, fighting hunger, and providing critical local services. The foundation has raised over $15 million, including $8.2 million in grants for career and technical education programs, like the Metallica Scholars Initiative, now in its sixth year. The foundation has also contributed over $3.6 million to combat food insecurity and more than $3.5 million to disaster relief efforts.

The concert will be available for viewing on December 19.
