“It was in a car. And of course, I got excited,” the Queen singer recalled. “It was still exciting, it was still physical touch. I was so repressed. I was like, ‘My heart rate is going up, I’m sweating!’ And then there was like a thought that ‘What if she’s going to have sex with me?'”

Lambert continued, “But then again I’m like, ‘She’s Mormon, so we’re good. We can keep it at making out and that’ll be where it’s great.’ This is a perfect situation. And actually one of the girls that happened with, I found out much later that she’s gay. She turned out to be a lesbian. I’m like, ‘Well, this makes perfect sense!’ We were safe for each other.”

Lambert has been open about sex in recent years. “There’s less and less shame around sex than there’s ever been,” the rocker told GRAMMY.com on a phone call last month. “We’re more mainstream than we’ve ever been — there’s more with social media and [pauses] other types of media on the internet.”

He added, “And that’s really exciting. ‘Cause sex is f*cking great. And healing, and wonderful, and exciting. It’s our human right to explore our sexuality, and I see more people feeling freer in that.”

In June, Adam’s documentary, ‘Out, Loud and Proud,’ aired on ITV1. It celebrates queer artists like Freddie Mercury, Elton John, and George Michael while discussing the prejudice they faced. “They’re not usually comfortable speaking about Freddie’s sexuality on camera – they respect his privacy. But we found a way to speak about it in a respectful manner,” Lambert said of his talk with Brian May and Roger Taylor about Mercury.

Lambert also noted, “I always try to honour Freddie. Everything I do on stage is a tribute to him. I’m honoured that they felt comfortable with me and open to talk about their experience with Freddie and his experience as a queer man in a time where it was taboo to talk about it publicly.”

The vocalist has no scheduled dates with Queen for this year yet. Meanwhile, Lambert will make this Broadway debut with the revival of ‘Cabaret’ as the Emcee. Auli’i Cravalho will also play Sally Bowles. They will begin their roles on September 16 and stay until the end of March.
