Quiet Riot bassist Rudy Sarzo recently addressed fan rumors regarding the audition and entry of the band’s new singer, John Torra, in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter).
The discussion began when a rock fan claimed that fans forced the band to notice Torra after his online audition went viral, suggesting Quiet Riot had initially ignored him.
“Quiet Riot’s new singer is 23, and the fans would not let the band ignore him,” the fan wrote. “John Torra went viral auditioning online, fans demanded they hire him, and he beat 700 others.”
Sarzo quickly responded to clarify the situation, explaining that the band was following professional business protocols rather than ignoring the singer.
“Trust me, we were not ignoring him but following a professional business protocol,” Sarzo said. “Our previous singer gave us a 90 day notice which meant we had a summer full of shows with him. Once he fulfilled his 90 day commitment we immediately announced John Torra as our new singer.”
This clarification comes after Quiet Riot held the announcement of Torra as their new vocalist—replacing Jizzy Pearl—until they completed scheduled performances, including shows with Jason McMaster.
Sarzo’s explanation also lines up with how the band’s search actually unfolded behind the scenes. The process was longer and more structured than the fan speculation suggested, and the timeline of the announcement was tied directly to the band’s live commitments rather than any reluctance to move forward with Torra.
Torra was chosen as Quiet Riot’s new singer after an open call that drew enormous attention online. The outlet reported that his audition video “racked up astronomical numbers online,” a detail that helps explain why fans felt so invested in his selection.
“Mr. Bush must be extra proud of Torra right now because he was just named the new lead singer of Quiet Riot — at the tender age of 23 — after his audition video racked up astronomical numbers online,” Rolling Stone wrote in its profile of the young frontman.
That viral momentum only tells part of the story, though. The band selected Torra from a pool of more than 700 submissions received during its open call for applicants, making his win a genuine competition rather than a fan-driven formality. The scale of that response confirms that Quiet Riot’s search was wide open and widely followed.
The departure Torra replaced also followed a clear schedule. Jizzy Pearl announced that he would be leaving Quiet Riot after the band’s 2026 tour dates, ending his latest stint with the group. Pearl had fronted the band from 2013 to 2016 and again from 2019 until this year.
Torra’s arrival also adds another chapter to a long history of vocalist changes in the band. Torra is the eighth full-time singer in Quiet Riot’s history and the sixth since the death of founding vocalist Kevin DuBrow in 2007. Sarzo remains the last remaining member of the classic-era lineup, which gives him a unique vantage point on both the band’s past and its latest transition.
