Sevendust drummer Morgan Rose has opened up about a pivotal moment in the band’s history. The group had fully planned their retirement and farewell tour before making a dramatic overnight decision to scrap those plans entirely.
“We were kind of thinking that we were gonna land the plane a little bit, like, ‘Let’s slow it down to a farewell thing,’ which we had discussed, for sure,” Rose explained. “And then some other things happened and we decided, ‘You know what? Instead of parking the car here, why don’t we just put it all the way into drive, like all the way in and let’s tour like harder than we’ve ever toured and just burn the car out.'”
The drummer revealed the depth of their retirement planning. The band had created an extensive blueprint for their final record. “This was gonna be our last record. We had a blueprint for it and everything. We actually had like a whole layout. It was that thick, of going through everything that we were gonna do and how we were gonna do it. And I mean, I cried a few times thinking about it,” Rose shared emotionally.
The decision to continue proved transformative for the band’s trajectory. “Overnight, it was a decision that went from ‘We’re gonna retire’ to ‘No, we’re gonna actually put the afterburner on now instead,'” Rose concluded. His words highlight how quickly the band’s mindset shifted from winding down to pushing forward with renewed intensity.
Rather than fading away, Sevendust is now executing an aggressive touring schedule that reflects Rose’s commitment to “burning the car out.” The band has launched their “ONE TOUR” (also known as the Southside Double-Wide Tour), according to Live Nation. The tour runs from April 16 through May 20, 2026, with support from Atreyu, Fire From The Gods, and American Adrenaline on most dates. The tour kicks off in Carterville, Illinois, and concludes in Knoxville, Tennessee, demonstrating the band’s commitment to extensive touring across North America.
The scale of this tour underscores Rose’s declaration about putting the band “all the way into drive.” Lollipop Magazine reported that Sevendust will feature special opening slots for Alter Bridge. The band will also appear at major festivals including Welcome to Rockville and Sonic Temple, further expanding their 2026 presence beyond the main headline tour.
