Tommy Lee Urges Younger Rock Musicians to Embrace Rock and Roll Lifestyle

Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee recently posted a message on social media aimed at younger rock musicians. He shared a clip from the Disco Acid Cult TV podcast that discussed the current state of rock music.

In the video, the host comments, “As sh*tty as it is for Dave Grohl to cheat on his wife, and Perry Farrell to fight his guitar player on stage, somebody’s gotta do it. Why are the old guys still being rock stars? Why is there no young band getting in fights on stage and cheating on girls and having babies? This generation needs to f*cking man up. Punch your bandmates on stage. Cheat on your girlfriend. If you’re gonna be a rockstar, there’s a reason that there’s no real f*cking rock and roll today.”

The host continues, “We got these old motherf*ckers that are like my grandpa’s age, still trying to carry the torch of rock and roll while all these f*cking L.A. kids are eating at the food courts in Whole Foods, recording music on their f*cking MacBook that their mom bought them. Grow the f*ck up. Punch your guitar player in the mouth. Come on, it’s f*cking ridiculous.” Tommy Lee shared this video on his story without any comment.

This video echoes Lee’s earlier thoughts on younger musicians. Almost 20 years ago, he expressed that many young musicians lack something important. He said, “You know, great rock ‘n’ roll has always been threatening. Just take the classics – whether it was Elvis, the Beatles, David Bowie or the Rolling Stones — they all got into trouble with the police at some time or other. Some of them even spent time behind bars,” the drummer shared with Spiegel. “Nowadays, on the other hand, there are more and more serious musicians and fewer and fewer genuine rock stars. I hardly know any young musicians who really live it up. To put it another way: many young talents are lacking in charisma.”

Mötley Crüe will be going on tour next year with ‘The Las Vegas Residency,’ starting on March 28 at Dolby Live and ending on April 19.
