What Happened to Sixx:A.M.?

Sixx:A.M., the American hard rock band formed in 2007 by Nikki Sixx, DJ Ashba, and James Michael, has had a dynamic journey since its inception. Known for hits like ‘Life Is Beautiful’ and ‘Lies of the Beautiful People,’ the band released five studio albums and three EPs before announcing an indefinite hiatus in 2017.

But, are they ever coming back?

Sixx:A.M. was formed in 2007 and recorded five studio albums before stepping away from the spotlights.

The band’s debut ‘The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack,’ was based on Sixx’s autobiography, offering a raw look at addiction. It featured ‘Life Is Beautiful,’ their breakthrough hit. Their next album ‘This Is Gonna Hurt’ blended rock with emotional depth.

By 2014, ‘Modern Vintage’ included a more experimental sound, influenced by classic rock. In 2016, Sixx:A.M. released ‘Prayers for the Damned’ and ‘Prayers for the Blessed,’ a two-part album project. Songs like ‘Rise’ and ‘We Will Not Go Quietly’ reflected themes of resilience and rebellion.

While the band initially avoided extensive touring, they hit the road in 2015 and 2016. However, in 2017, James Michael and DJ Ashba announced that Sixx:A.M. would go on an ‘indefinite hiatus.’ During this time, they started a new band called Pyromantic, but no music has been released under that name yet.

Two years after the announcement, Sixx:A.M. recorded four new songs and worked on a greatest hits album. In September of the same year, they released a song titled ‘Talk to Me,’ and a remix of ‘Maybe It’s Time’ in 2020. Next year, the band announced their ‘Hits’ album, featuring a new mix of ‘Talk to Me,’ three unreleased songs, and remixes of older tracks.

A Possible Reunion?

While the new songs and remixes gave the fans some hope, Nikki Sixx clarified that the band has retired. “Sixx:AM has retired,” he wrote in an X post.

In October 2021, Sixx:A.M. vocalist James Michael said in an interview that the band had no plans to tour or make new music after releasing their ‘Hits’ album.

He said, “We were kind of looking at it [‘Hits’ album] as ‘This is the end, at least for now.’ And that was also an important aspect to us going into the studio and doing this because we really wanted to be able to — for lack of a better way to describe it — wrap this up and put a nice bow on it and really feel like we’ve controlled this from the beginning to the end.”

“So it was fun and it was exciting. And as I said, we never know what SIXX:A.M. is gonna do in the future, but for now, we’re looking at this and saying, ‘This is a good way to wrap this up,'” the rocker added.

In 2022, DJ Ashba echoed Michael’s thoughts, also suggesting that the ‘Hits’ album was a fitting conclusion for the band.
