Dylan has a complicated relationship with music. He initially rejected the art form entirely, despite being the son of one of rock’s most famous drummers. “I used to hate music back in the day. I didn’t want to make music,” he revealed in an interview with Interview Magazine. His initial resistance eventually transformed into passion, though not in an expected direction.
Dylan Lee Doesn’t Want to Copy Tommy Lee
Dylan explained that he sets himself apart from his father’s rock legacy. “I’ve always been on my own path… I feel like I don’t really love rock music, so I’m definitely not going to go into that lane. It was always, ‘I’d rather be a rapper than a rock guy,'” he told WWD.
Dylan then formed Midnight Kids and later projects. He maintained his independence throughout this journey, though. “He didn’t even know I was in a band until four days ago,” Dylan shared about Tommy Lee’s reaction. “He was pretty pissed when he figured it out. He was, like, ‘Dude, what the f*ck? You didn’t tell me you were singing and sh*t, that’s so dope.'”
Tommy Lee contributed to his son’s musical journey by purchasing him Ableton software. But Dylan has largely charted his own course in the industry. So, the apple can indeed fall far from the tree and flourish in its own way.
Dylan Jagger Lee’s Current Music Projects
According to recent industry analysis, Dylan’s musical style combines rock, pop, and alternative influences. His father’s rock background provides an inevitable foundation. However, he managed to create his own contemporary sound. As of now, it seems he’s not actively making music with his band Motel 7, but Midnight Kids is still active.
