Disturbing news about former Get Scared vocalist Joel Faviere shook the post-hardcore scene. According to Florida Department of Corrections records, Faviere received a 12-year prison sentence in 2018 for serious charges related to exploitation of minors.

Operation Child Guardian in Polk County, Florida, led to the arrest of multiple individuals for possession of sexual material involving minors, and promotion of sexual performance of a minor. These included Faviere. The legal system took decisive action. Faviere began serving his 12-year sentence at Blackwater River Correctional Facility in 2018.

Get Scared’s then-current vocalist Nick Matthews addressed the situation with clear condemnation. “Although his time in the band was very short, we feel he has tarnished the very name we worked so hard to build up for the past nine years,” Matthews stated.

He said he had a minimal personal contact with Faviere. The band immediately distanced themselves from their former member to protect their fanbase.

Fearless Records confirms Faviere’s had a brief tenure with Get Scared. He joined in late 2011 as Nicholas Matthews’ replacement. The band released their EP ‘Built for Blame, Laced With Shame’ in 2012. This was their only official release with Faviere on vocals.

Social media platforms revealed that there’s new content appearing under Faviere’s name. According to Reddit discussions, users noticed uploads on his former YouTube channel. The timing of these uploads remain unclear. As for now, it’s known that Faviere is still serving his sentence.

Get Scared, on the other hand, went under a brief breakup in 2019. However, sources confirm Get Scared announced their reunion in 2022. The band now actively works on new material. You can catch up with them here.
