Laakso had a rich musical career through his work as a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and engineer. He created compositional work for like Cartoon Network, Google, Adidas, and Apple. The financial impact of these projects on his estate is unclear, though.

According to Pitchfork, the musician and producer died on May 4, 2023, at age 44. He left behind his wife Mamie-Claire Cornelius and their two children.

Laakso was battling with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive bile duct cancer. Treatment typically requires extensive medical procedures and continuous care, and the musician’s cancer battle was a financial strain for his family.

A GoFundMe campaign raised $128,671 to cover Laakso’s medical expenses. His wife’s final GoFundMe update read: “After praying for a miracle every day since he was diagnosed my prayers recently changed to a peaceful home departure surrounded by love. I realize now every day we had together was a miracle.”

The estate passed to Laakso’s immediate family – his wife Mamie-Claire Cornelius and their two children. His wife shared touching words about their final days together. “He pushed through so much just to sit and bask in the joy of our children running through bubbles in the backyard… that was absolute living to him in our most recent days.”

For now, the estate’s specific value remains private.
