The fascinating intersection of Mongolian folk metal and the Star Wars universe emerged through The Hu, a band formed in 2016. According to Billboard, the group pioneered their unique ‘hunnu rock’ style. They incorporate traditional Mongolian instruments like the morin khuur and tovshuur, alongside their distinctive throat singing techniques.

The Hu’s journey into the Star Wars universe came through their contributions to two major video game titles: ‘Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’ (2019) and ‘Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’ (2023). GamesRadar reports their music appears in both games through the in-game band called the Agasar. Their contributions include tracks like ‘Hohochu,’ ‘Sugaan Essena’ (Black Thunder), and ‘Eseerin Vasahina.’

Creating Music In An Alien Language

The creative process behind their Star Wars contributions reveals a fascinating approach to musical storytelling. “Everything in Star Wars is unique, the characters included, and many have completely different alien languages,” explained The Hu’s Galbadrakh Tsendbaatar in an interview with Revolver.

The band first composed their songs in Mongolian to ensure they carried meaning. They performed these versions during their European and U.S. tours. Later, they crafted lyrics in an authentic Star Wars language with guidance from the game’s creators.

Personal Connection To The Franchise

The collaboration stemmed from genuine appreciation for the franchise. “We were all fans of Star Wars beforehand. We started watching the movies at such young ages and all wanted to be Luke Skywalker,” Tsendbaatar revealed. He emphasized how Luke’s character inspired them to aspire toward strength and honesty.

This unique collaboration showcases a distinctive cultural fusion. It demonstrates how traditional musical elements can enhance modern entertainment franchises while maintaining authenticity.

Global Impact And Success
