Stryper’s Michael Sweet Reflects On 40 Years Of Faith-Based Metal

Stryper frontman Michael Sweet shared thoughts about the band’s 40-year journey in a recent Instagram post. The release of their album ‘Soldiers Under Command’ marked a defining moment in Christian metal history.

“This year is the 40th Anniversary of ‘Soldiers Under Command,'” Sweet said. “We could have written lyrics about the world and followed every rock & roll cliche but we wrote about Jesus and we did our best to share His message with the world.”

“We’ve made mistakes (many) but we never stopped singing about Gods grace, love and mercy,” he continued, acknowledging the band’s commitment to their message.

Stryper continues to maintain their position as one of the pioneering Christian metal bands in the industry. The anniversary offers a chance to examine the band’s significant impact on Christian metal and their groundbreaking achievements.

Album Success And Impact

Metal Storm’s archives documented Stryper’s first full-length release with Enigma Records in 1984. The album showcased their distinctive combination of glam metal and hard rock with spiritual themes.

The album surpassed industry expectations. It sold over half a million units worldwide and held its position on Billboard’s Top 200 album chart for more than forty weeks.
