Linkin Park’s Joe Hahn recently responded to fans who wanted the band to end after Chester Bennington’s passing, addressing the criticism surrounding their new chapter in an interview with BBC.

Hahn discussed the band’s new documentary film, Unshatter, and explained why they decided to openly address the criticism they received regarding their comeback with new singer Emily Armstrong.

When asked how important it was to acknowledge the uncertainty and criticism in the film rather than avoid those conversations, Hahn shared his perspective on where the criticism originates.

“I think the criticisms they come from can come from different places,” Hahn said. “The worst part of it is when it comes from yourself, you know, and I think that’s probably the reason why it took so long for us to even feel comfortable with the idea of trying again.”

He also noted how deeply personal the band is to its fanbase, which can lead to strong opinions about its direction.

“I think the other part of it is the band is really meaningful to a lot of people and very personal to each person,” Hahn continued. “So based on the history and the great things that we’ve done, people take that as their own, and so it’s easy for a person to formulate this idea of what the band is, what it should be, what it’s allowed to do. But when it comes down to it, it’s just like you have to let things be and then something great will come out of it.”
