Shinedown frontman Brent Smith shared his thoughts about the Super Bowl and chose his favorite half time performance. During a conversation in Audacy Check In podcast, the rocker revealed whether or not the band would play in the Super Bowl if they were invited. When asked about it, the frontman’s response was positive. He said:
“Yeah. Easy. Totally… I know that the highest attendance was last year with Rihanna, which I love that her pyrotechnics were she was pregnant. That’s a true boss. That’s a boss right there, man. That’s a different level of boss.”
The rocker admires Rihanna’s performance so much that he went on to call her performance unbeatable:
“And it’s not gonna matter; nobody’s ever gonna beat that anyway. It’s unbeatable. That’s just a boss move. And also, by the way, flying on a platform that literally she wasn’t tied into or anything, I’m, like, this woman is a real-life superhero.”
Smith seems to have heard the rumors of this year’s performer. He shared his thoughts about the performer:
“I saw rumors that like Usher was doing it this year… Hey, man, I’ll tell you this: Usher’s a bad mofo. I’m gonna be honest with you, man — Usher is an incredible performer.”
The rocker also shared that if Usher invited them as a surprise guest to play at the Super Bowl, they would accept it ‘in a heartbeat.’
Although their songs include some rock and metal hits, Super Bowl has been inviting pop stars rather than rock stars. A few rockers are aware of this situation as well, one of whom decided to address his complaints through social media numerous times.
Despite the complaints, names such as Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Idol, and Paul Stanley came together to collaborate with Workday for a Super Bowl commercial, where they are seen to reclaim the word ‘rockstar’ to clear its misuse from the American corporations.
