Slipknot’s DJ and keyboardist Sid Wilson has drawn criticism from fans for promoting his updated independent merch store while the band’s future remains uncertain. Wilson shared his first social media post after the band permanently fired him, posting a video promoting his new sidthe3rdshop.com store. The timing sparked immediate backlash from frustrated fans who were waiting for clarity on his status with the legendary metal group.

One Slipknot fan commented directly on Wilson’s post: “Ffs this fucking band. Could someone say out right whether Sid is fired or not? Stop treating the fans like shit. We’ve put up with so much bullshit recently.” Another fan criticized the move as a calculated business decision, writing: “Perfect time to posts this stuff, marketing strategy.” The comments reflect growing frustration within the fanbase over the lack of official communication regarding Wilson’s departure and the band’s direction.

Wilson was notified late Friday afternoon on July 31 that he had been permanently kicked out of the band after nearly 30 years as its original DJ and keyboardist. No official reason was provided for the dismissal. This lack of transparency has left fans and industry observers to speculate about the circumstances behind the decision.

The silence from both Wilson and the band has only intensified the backlash. Guitarist Jim Root posted a cryptic message urging people not to believe everything they read. Neither Slipknot nor Wilson has issued an official statement explaining the separation. This silence created a vacuum of information that Wilson’s merch promotion appears to have filled, though not in the way fans hoped for.

Wilson’s departure marks a significant moment in Slipknot’s history. It comes just months after his split with fiancée Kelly Osbourne. The timing of his merchandise announcement, coupled with the band’s refusal to address the firing directly, has left the fanbase feeling dismissed and undervalued. For a band that has built its reputation on connecting with its audience, the handling of Wilson’s exit represents a notable departure from that principle. Fans have expressed their disappointment through social media criticism of what they perceive as tone-deaf marketing priorities.
