5 Essential Facts About Machine Head’s Robb Flynn

Rob Flynn has made himself a career that surpasses three decades, as he has been on the scene ever since joining his first metal band in the late 80s. However, there is still much to learn about him, and if you want to know more about Flynn; well, you’re in the right place. So, without further introduction, let’s check out some essential facts about the Machine Head frontman.

Flynn Himself Has Jokingly Called His Own Singing Style ‘Barking in Key’

One of the essential features of Machine Head is Flynn’s vocal style, as he can sing through different keys and yell, growl, and scream; then sing with a clear vocal. The frontman himself even has made a joke about his style, mocking his death growls by saying he didn’t sing but only ‘barked’ in key.

Flynn Had Some Trouble With Burglars

Flynn had a break-in at his house in 2012, and the burglars managed to get away with numerous items. However, they also targeted his guitar collection, stealing a Washburn 333 or, as Flynn called it, the ‘Dimebolt,’ as the instrument was a gift from the late Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell. Lucky for him, the stolen guitar was returned to Flynn in 2016.

He Has a Signature Guitar

The Machine Head frontman is quite invested in guitars, as he even designed his own signature guitar, ‘Love Death’ Epiphone Flying-V. The design features numerous personalized features, and with the skulls and other ‘gothic’ elements drawn on the guitar, there’s no doubt that it goes well along Flynn’s heavy metal spirit.

Robb Is Known as ‘The General’

Most rockers have nicknames and Flynn is no exception. As you’ve learned from the title just now, his nickname is ‘The General,’ as he is responsible for leading Machine Head.

Robb Flynn Was Inspired by Queen and Freddie Mercury

Flynn might be a figure in the heavy metal scene but he’s also not shy to discuss how rock icons Queen and Freddie Mercury had influenced him. You can even hear Brian May’s influence throughout the guitar solos in the Machine Head track, ‘Who We Are.’ You can check out below to hear the song.
