Alicia Taylor Calls Out Gen Z Over Slipknot Controversy

Corey Taylor’s wife, Alicia, poked fun at Gen Z on X for attempting to cancel Slipknot.

A fan shared the lyrics of Slipknot’s ‘Disasterpiece,’ which includes the line, ‘I wanna slit your throat and f*ck the wound.’ Alicia reposted this with the hashtag “Cancel Slipknot.”

“Also, if you think I’m serious, I’m mocking op. Here’s some merch I have from them. It’s not much,” the user clarified in the comments, posting images of Slipknot masks and signed album photos.

Slipknot isn’t the only band facing backlash from Gen Z. In August, they attempted to cancel Cannibal Corpse on social media, but fans rallied behind Corpsegrinder. This debate started when someone mentioned Mindless Self Indulgence and their song ‘Panty Shot,’ arguing to separate the art from the artist while acknowledging the controversial nature of the lyrics.

The song includes lines that sexualize a minor. In 2021, MSI’s lead singer, Jimmy Urine, was accused of sexually assaulting a minor. Cannibal Corpse was drawn into the discussion when someone shared lyrics from their song ‘Necropedophile.’

While some criticized Cannibal Corpse’s lyrics, others defended the band, highlighting the difference between death metal and MSI. One commenter stated, “This mf and anyone who listens to him should be shot dead execution style. I do not want to share society with mentally ill freaks.”

Conversely, another user defended Corpsegrinder, saying, “Gen Z discovering Cannibal Corpse and trying to cancel them is hilarious. Meanwhile, Corpsegrinder is out here playing claw machine games and donating the stuffed animals to kids in need.” They also included photos of Corpsegrinder playing claw machines and giving toys to children.

“Gen Z scene kids trying to cancel Cannibal Corpse for lyrics written before they were born is the reason why metal is dying as a culture,” another person remarked on X.

In the days following the controversy, Cannibal Corpse fans voiced their support for the band as Gen Z criticized their lyrics. This led to numerous comments on social media. Young listeners showed their love for Cannibal Corpse and their albums, believing the criticism wouldn’t harm the band and might even attract new fans. Some stated they would cancel their Spotify subscriptions due to the platform removing certain Cannibal Corpse albums.
