Alissa White-Gluz released her newest album, ‘Deceivers,’ with Arch Enemy in the summer of 2022 and went number one in the charts of Finland, Switzerland, and the UK. But her music career began two decades before that when she was a 17-year-old girl.

According to a chat with Toon Track, White-Gluz started in a progressive rock band back in the day and had a clean singing voice. Later, she developed her current singing style and entered the metal scene with the band The Agonist in 2004.

During her tenure from 2004 to 2014, The Agonist gained recognition in the metal scene with the help of the singer’s mix of clean and harsh vocals. Some of its albums, such as ‘Lullabies for the Dormant Mind,’ received positive reviews and cemented White-Gluz’s place in the genre.

Joining Arch Enemy

In 2014, the frontwoman took a different step in her career by joining the Swedish melodic death metal band Arch Enemy. This shift marked a new era, both for her and the band, as their first album together, ‘War Eternal,’ showed her adaptation to a different style of metal music.

With White-Gluz as the frontwoman, Arch Enemy released several albums, including ‘Will To Power’ and ‘Deceivers.’ The third single from the latter, ‘Handshake With Hell,’ came out with a music video and found a place in Loudwire’s ‘best metal/rock song’ of 2022 list.

The Singer’s Solo Effort

Meanwhile, the vocalist also worked on solo projects by signing a deal with Napalm Records in 2016. But the album called ‘Alissa’ didn’t get a definite release date in the last couple of years.

During a recent chat with Finland’s Chaoszine, the singer explained the reason for the long delay by saying:

“We’re not ready to release it yet, so there’s no real timeline yet. I’m still very much in the ‘Deceivers’ timeline with Arch Enemy, so I have to basically find a gap in Arch Enemy’s albums to release this. But we don’t really take a lot of breaks. So I’m working on it. As soon as it’s done, everyone will know.”

About Her Upcoming Album

It’s not clear when White-Gluz’s solo record will come out, but according to her words, when it does, ‘Alissa’ will have a different sound than the Arch Enemy albums, as the singer wants to ‘keep it simple’ with her new work to ‘make it very clear who it is and what it is.’
