Aurora Wants To Go Metal: Here’s Why It Makes Sense

A pop singer like Aurora making a metal album might seem like a wild idea, but if you’ve been paying attention, it actually makes perfect sense. The Norwegian singer-songwriter has never been one to stick to a single genre, and she’s been open about her love for heavy music.

Just last year, she told NME that making a full-blown metal record is something “my heart wouldn’t be complete without. I really want to do it because I just love heavy metal so much. It’s such a force, like a wave—a deadly wave coming at you. I will. I have to, for my Norwegian ancestors. Until now, I’ve been purely a disappointment to them.”

Metalheads aren’t entirely against the idea either, especially since she’s already stepped into the scene with her collaboration with Bring Me The Horizon.

Her First Step Into Metal Dream

In 2024, Aurora joined Bring Me The Horizon for ‘Limousine,’ a track from their ‘Post Human: Nex Gen’ album. Her ethereal voice blended with BMTH’s signature mix of metalcore and electronic elements turned out to be a killer combo.

Reflecting on the collaboration, she shared a deeply personal connection to the band: “I heard Bring Me The Horizon when I was a teenager. They were with me for some time. I was introduced to them by my first lover, who actually died. It’s sad, but it’s beautiful too because I know that when I listen to them, and when I made a song with them, he would be amazed. So, it felt very full-circle in the journey of grief.”

And the response? Overwhelmingly positive. Fans praised how naturally she fit into the heavier sound, proving she could hold her own in the genre. If anything, this track only fueled anticipation for a full-on metal project.

She’s Got More Metal Collaborations In Mind

Aurora isn’t stopping there. She’s already got her sights set on more collaborations, and one name stands out: Gojira. In an interview with The Forty-Five, she said, “I really want to do more heavy metal music. I really want to work with French metal band Gojira.”

This isn’t just a random pick—Aurora is a known fan of the band and is even mentioned as one of the artists influenced by them on their Wikipedia page. The influence of Gojira, along with black metal in general, is already present in her music. In a past interview with Forté, she pointed out that tracks like ‘Under The Water’ and ‘The Seed’ carry that distinct metal edge.

That’s why Gojira fans are generally accepting towards her, with many believing it could lead to something unique and powerful. So, stay tuned—Aurora might just surprise everyone with a full-on metal release any moment!
