Allison Hagendorf recently asked Billy Corgan for an update on Courtney Love’s new music, which she has been teasing since last year. Corgan responded by touching on her creative vision and their previous collaborations.
“Well, I’ve offered to help a couple of times, but I think she’s fallen with some people in England that she likes,” he said. “I’ve heard some stuff. I don’t have any particular opinion, good or bad, because I think what she’s after is something I don’t totally understand.”
“I think Courtney is certainly — she doesn’t lack a perspective. That’s never been the issue. But because of her raw musical talent, she’s still relying on other people to sort of translate. I like to think that, in that thing, I’ve been the best partner in translating her vision into something that an average fan on the street would understand.”
Corgan and Love had a brief romantic relationship during Hole’s early days and later reunited to co-write 1998’s ‘Celebrity Skin’ and 2010’s ‘Nobody’s Daughter.’
The two’s musical collaboration ended long ago, but the Smashing Pumpkins vocalist said their relationship was still ‘very good.’
“I was just texting with her, like, two days ago,” he revealed. “We’ll talk every once in a while, maybe every six to eight weeks. We’ll just have kind of a — She’s a furious texter. Just put it that way. It’s like a text storm, you know, and it could be about anything. I mean, we were talking about — it was Rothschild’s one second and then what’s in the news next. It’s all good.”
Hole has been inactive since their 2012 breakup, though Love has hinted at a possible reunion a few times, most recently during a guest appearance at The Coverups’ London show in February.
It’s still unclear if Love’s upcoming music will be for Hole or a solo project, as no official details have been released yet.
