W.A.S.P. leader Blackie Lawless has publicly called on the band’s fans to rally behind former guitarist Chris Holmes as he battles prostate cancer. Lawless shared a statement on the band’s Instagram account expressing the gravity of the situation while urging the W.A.S.P. community to provide support in any form possible.

“The entire W.A.S.P. family are devastated with the news that our Brother and originator, Chris Holmes is now in a serious fight,” Lawless stated. “We ask that all of you, who have been moved and touched by the Band stand with us all, to support, as well as to honor him with whatever you can do, be it financial, or words of peace and encouragement. Let him know what he’s meant to you. W.A.S.P. Nation Support You All !!”

The public show of support marks a significant moment given the well-documented tensions between Lawless and Holmes over the years. Despite their contentious history, Lawless’s message demonstrates a willingness to set aside past grievances in the face of Holmes’s health crisis. The statement reflects the importance of band solidarity during difficult times.

Holmes, now 68 years old, currently resides in Paris with his wife Catherine, who manages his care and public communications. The guitarist faces his second major health challenge in recent years. In 2022, Holmes successfully overcame throat and neck cancer. His current diagnosis of prostate cancer has prompted immediate medical intervention, with radiotherapy treatments already underway in France.

The financial burden of Holmes’s treatment has become a pressing concern for the family. Catherine Holmes opened a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the substantial medical costs associated with his radiotherapy and ongoing care. The fundraiser initially targeted €50,000, with the family facing approximately €20,000 in medical expenses. The campaign has been instrumental in helping the Holmes family manage the financial strain while he focuses on recovery.

Holmes cancelled all scheduled performances in April 2026 due to health issues requiring immediate treatment. The subsequent diagnosis of prostate cancer explained the urgency of those cancellations and the need for comprehensive medical intervention. His wife emphasized that while the situation was serious, it was neither mysterious nor unnecessarily dramatic.

The outpouring of support from the W.A.S.P. community and the broader metal music world underscores the deep respect Holmes has earned throughout his career as a founding member of the legendary band. Despite documented disputes with Lawless regarding publishing rights and other matters, the focus has shifted entirely to Holmes’s recovery and well-being. Fans and fellow musicians are rallying behind the guitarist during this challenging period.
