Late Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds was recently honored by his ex-wife, Raisa Moreno, who shared emotional tribute posts on the first anniversary of his passing. In her tribute, shared on Instagram, Moreno recalled one of her favorite stories about Hinds and showed a new “Dirty B” tattoo she got in his memory.

Hinds, the co-founder and lead guitarist of Mastodon, died on August 20, 2025, in a motorcycle crash in Atlanta at the age of 51. He formed the band in 2000 with Troy Sanders, Bill Kelliher, and Brann Dailor, helping shape their sound across eight studio albums.

Moreno’s post detailed a humorous incident from 2024 when Hinds was kicked out of an Os Mutantes concert but managed to sneak back in using a disguise.

“1 year without this wild boy,” Moreno wrote. “One of my favorite Brent stories. We went to see Os Mutantes in 2024 and he got kicked out/banned for flipping someone off. As he’s getting kicked out, he looks at me and goes, ‘Don’t worry. I’ll come back.’ Security said, ‘No, you won’t.’ So I just stay in and enjoy the show, not my first rodeo.”

She then described how Hinds returned to the venue completely unrecognizable to watch the rest of the performance.

“A little while later, this extremely COVID-era-looking stranger in a mask, gloves, wig, and glasses starts talking way too close to my face at the bar,” she continued. “I’m thinking, why the f*ck is this person dressed like this if they’re going to be two inches from my face? Then looks at me and goes, ‘You really can’t tell that’s Brent, right?’ This man had gone to the theater next door where he knew people, borrowed an entire disguise, snuck back in, and created a whole persona. He watched the entire show like that.”

Moreno concluded the story by explaining how Hinds made sure his successful prank was known before leaving.

“And because getting away with it wasn’t enough, while he was leaving, he found the owner and dramatically revealed himself,” she added.

This tribute comes one year after the passing of the Mastodon guitarist, whose unique personality and groundbreaking guitar work continue to be remembered by family and fans alike.
