Gus G. has addressed his addition to King Diamond as the replacement for the band’s longtime guitarist and songwriter Andy La Rocque. In a video message, the Greek guitarist expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received since the announcement. He also acknowledged the significance of stepping into the shoes of a legendary musician.
“Hey, all. Gus here. I just want to make a quick video to talk about the news the past couple of days. As you might have seen, I’m the new guitar player in King Diamond’s band,” Gus G. began. His phone “has been blowing up with messages and calls and texts from friends and fans, and on socials, of course, everywhere.” He thanked everyone for their messages of love and encouragement.
Gus G. expressed his deep appreciation for King Diamond’s invitation to join the band, calling it “a big, big honor.” He acknowledged the shock many fans may have experienced with the lineup change, given Andy La Rocque’s legendary status within the band. However, Gus G. revealed that La Rocque himself has been supportive of the transition. “Andy La Rocque is a legend. And it’s gonna be an honor stepping into his shoes. He’s a buddy of mine, and he even sent me a message wishing me well,” Gus G. stated.
Gus G. emphasized his commitment to bringing his own artistic vision to King Diamond while respecting the band’s musical legacy. “I’m gonna bring my own vibe into it and, of course, honoring the music, which I’m so excited about playing on stage for you all,” he explained. He expressed equal excitement about creating new music with the band. “I’m also equally excited, if not more, about creating new music together with the King and the band and finally get this album going,” he added.
Andy La Rocque’s departure marks the end of an era for King Diamond. The guitarist had been with the band since its founding in 1985, making his tenure span over four decades. La Rocque was a co-founding member and primary songwriter. He played an instrumental role in shaping the band’s distinctive sound and conceptual direction throughout their career. His contributions to King Diamond’s discography and live performances have made him one of the most respected figures in the metal community.
Gus G. brings considerable experience from his work with Firewind and his previous tenure as a guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne. He will now take on the responsibility of composing, recording, and touring with King Diamond. The transition represents a significant moment for the Danish metal legends as they prepare to move forward with new creative directions. They aim to maintain the musical integrity that has defined their legacy.
King Diamond himself has expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. He welcomed Gus G. as the band’s new guitarist and confirmed that they are already working together on new material. Gus G. will continue his involvement with his other projects, including Firewind and his solo work. Careful planning ensures no conflicts between his various musical commitments. The band has indicated that exciting times lie ahead, with new music and touring plans in development.
