Bon Jovi frontman Jon Bon Jovi recently shared his thoughts on the dangers of fame and how it has affected many young musicians, addressing the topic in a video shared by Dr Rangan Chatterjee.

When asked what people misunderstand about fame, Bon Jovi warned about its deceptive nature and how it can ruin those who buy into it.

“Fame is a liar and a thief,” Bon Jovi said. “Fame will ruin you if you buy into it. It will tell you things that you shouldn’t have believed, and it’ll take from you things that you never wanted to lose.”

He then explained how this pressure has historically impacted young artists, referencing the tragic deaths of musicians at a young age.

“You got to tame that pony quick before it gets the best of you, like it has to so many people,” he continued. “That’s why the 27 Club, how many young of the greats died because they couldn’t handle the ride.”

This perspective highlights the challenges that come with sudden success in the music industry.

His remarks come as a reminder that Bon Jovi has spent more than four decades in music, with the band building a career that has lasted well beyond the usual flash of rock stardom. That long run gives his comments added weight and places them in the broader context of an artist who has seen fame from almost every angle.

The 27 Club is the name given to a tragic group of musicians who died at age 27, including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse. Britannica also notes that the idea is more cultural shorthand than proof of a true “curse.”

Bon Jovi’s band has been together for more than 40 years, sold about 130 million albums and performed for more than 40 million fans in over 50 countries. The podcast listing also says the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.

In the same conversation, Bon Jovi linked longevity to discipline rather than excess. He said, “I’m perfectly fine with aging,” and added that songwriting matters most to him because “it will outlast you.”

Together, those details frame Bon Jovi’s comments as more than a warning about celebrity. They reflect a veteran musician’s view that surviving fame depends less on chasing the spotlight than on learning how to outlast it.
