Neal Schon recently responded to questions from Journey fans about the band’s upcoming appearance on The Voice. He addressed the matter publicly on X (formerly Twitter), explaining that the performance would include only certain members of Journey’s touring lineup.
Schon emphasized that this was strictly due to scheduling issues and did not signal any long-term changes within the band. “I’m performing with members of the current Journey touring band — Deen, Todd, and Jason,” Schon said. “Any recent changes to promo content were not initiated by me and are being addressed. Appreciate the support.”
He later offered additional context to ensure fans fully understood the situation and to prevent any misinterpretation regarding the band’s lineup.
“Just so there’s no confusion, this is in no way meant to make it look like Jonathan or Arnel are not in the band any longer. They could not make the Voice,” he explained. “I’m simply going there with Deen, Todd, and Jason to promote our upcoming tour and have some fun. There were many other great TV opportunities that I had to turn down. I want to work and promote after being off for close to a year.”
Jonathan Cain and Arnel Pineda remain active members of Journey, and their absence from The Voice is solely related to availability rather than any internal changes or restructuring.
Journey, led by Neal Schon, is scheduled to deliver a high-profile performance during The Voice Season 28 finale in 2025, as announced via YouTube. The appearance highlights the band’s ongoing influence and continued relevance within today’s music landscape.
Taking the stage on The Voice offers Journey a chance to connect with a wider audience beyond their established rock fanbase. After a period away from major media exposure, the televised performance serves as a calculated promotional effort ahead of their upcoming tour.
It helps reignite fan engagement while introducing the band to new listeners through the show’s massive platform. The finale appearance reinforces Journey’s lasting presence in the industry and their ability to remain visible across generations.
Schon’s statements reflect a proactive and transparent approach to fan communication. By directly addressing concerns and clearly explaining the circumstances behind the lineup for the performance, he reaffirmed the band’s respect for its audience. Journey’s flexibility in adapting to scheduling demands—while preserving its core membership—demonstrates a professional balance between opportunity, longevity, and fan trust built over decades.
